The end if near, I'm retiring this blog on Friday.

I have said what I need to say here and this space goes dead after Friday. I'm not sure that it has been fun, but I have learn a lot about SIUC. I'm sure I'll do something else, but we now know this story and it is time to write a new one.

Your comments are welcome.

peter, for the brief but shining time you published this blog you deserve the thanks of a grateful blogospehre. Not much point in renaming it now, I guess. ;-(

Peter, I have really learned a lot about Carbondale and SIU by reading your blog. I'm sorry to hear that you're retiring it. Thanks, Cindy

Peter, thanks for all the work you put into this blog -- I've enjoyed your insights, as well as the chance to contribute in the comments section. Perhaps, in due time, I'll start a blog regarding the goings-on of Terre Haute, a town that would be a lot more like Carbondale if it were not for the presence of Rose-Hulman.

Hmmm... maybe that's the solution -- Rose, or some other top-flight school, opens a branch campus in the greater Carbondale area. :)

It was good while it lasted!

Sorry to see you go, Peter. Can't say I always agreed with ya, but I always enjoyed reading what you had to say. I have a feeling we've not heard the last of Peter Gregory!

Peter
Not fair! I just discovered your blog thru' locked room gossip and have taken part. Now you're stopping! Not fair!
Thanks. My little bit of participation has been fun. I'm a virgin blogger and I thank you for deflowering me.

Peter,

It's been a pleasure to meet you and learn from you. I just can't see you being done just yet, although there isn't much to say about Carbondale Business except that the University is mismanaged and there isn't enough business in Carbondale. Maybe there will be others carrying the torch, although if I had a billion dollars sitting around I might try the private research university in Southern Illinois idea, although I think Marion would be a better site long-term.

You will be leaving the SIUC story a bit prematurely. Between now and January 31, 2007, quite a bit of major, major news will be playing out publicly. You should keep the blog open.

Oooh, locked room gossip is the sole province of males - so what to think of the "deflowering" comment? Females gossip anywhere, but only us guys have to reserve it for the locker room.

Darn! I was told that reporters had been told by W.V.W. to expect big news today and it didn't happen. The SIUC community is being done a disservice by having info on significant developments withheld from them.

I want to see the Lawrence/Mulach/ Whitfield plagiarism report. I want to know whether Wendler is stepping down for any reason at all - I JUST WANT HIM GONE SO THIS PLACE CAN MOVE ON.

What the f*** is going on that we're still in the dark after so long?

Can nobody do anything properly here?

I try to ignore Marion. Their success is based on a whole bunch of $10/hour jobs, I'm not sure that is where I want to be. It is likely the best they can do given their workforce. It isn't like Carbondale can have a $10/hour workforce, even if they wanted to. The Mayor and Economic Development people have turned lemons into lemonaid, but without the knowledge workers it isn't a sweet drink.
